Process to count ranked-choice voting ballots expected to take days

They have the ballots and voting machine memory sticks from about 300 of Maine's towns and cities, and expect the rest to be delivered by the end of Friday.

AUGUSTA (NEWS CENTER Maine) — The Maine Secretary of State is poised to begin entering ballots into the computer for tabulating ranked-choice voting.

Election officials have the ballots and voting machine memory sticks from about 300 of Maine’s towns and cities, and expect the rest to be delivered by the end of Friday.

They expect the process will take several days to complete. Once it is done, they will be able to run the computer program to do the ranked-choice count, which will determine the winners of the Democratic primaries for Governor and the Second District Congressional race.

Deputy Secretary Julie Flynn is overseeing the Bureau of Corporations Elections and Commissions and explained to reporters how the ranked-choice voting tabulation process will begin with uploading the votes Friday.
