BREWER (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- For the first time since his acceptance speech, Congressman-elect Jared Golden is speaking about his win in an historic election and on his transition to Washington.
NEWS CENTER Maine caught up with Golden late Monday morning in Brewer at his first public appearance since his ranked-choice win in the 2nd congressional district race.
"It was important for me to be here today," said Golden. "I’m what we call a labor democrat and a big part of my early support and support throughout the campaign came from the labor movement."
Golden was on hand to help the Food and Medicine nonprofit with their Solidarity Harvest, which will feed 1,300 families a Thanksgiving dinner this year.
"To come here today as a way of saying thanks, but also, I think, showing what the campaign has been about all along which is action and rolling up your sleeves and showing people that I'm one of them," said Golden. "It was important to come here today and say thanks but also get right back to work and what a great cause."
Golden said he's eager to put the election behind him and begin living his campaign promise to get to work for all Mainers.
"I look forward to representing everyone," said Golden. "Every single person whether they voted for me, didn't vote for me, whether they didn't vote. The job is to represent the entire district so we're very excited and look forward to engaging with the people of Maine as soon as we get seated."
Golden said he's heading to Washington, D.C. next week after the Thanksgiving holiday for new member orientation and to begin building his team, both in Maine and in D.C.
"I'm just getting started," added Golden.
He'll be seated in Congress on January 3.
