MONROE (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- With barely a month until primary day, Democrats can cross Jonathan Fulford off their list of contenders for the Second District U.S. Congressional race.
Fulford was one of four Democrats in the running. Whoever among the remaining candidates wins the nomination will represent their party in the general election against the Republican who currently occupies the seat, Rep. Bruce Poliquin.
Fulford runs a construction business. His 30 years of experience as a carpenter and farmer were some of the major selling points that he presented to voters in the biography on his campaign website.
On Monday, Fulford released a statement announcing the suspension of his campaign for "personal reasons." He expanded upon his explanation with a second statement the next day that said, "The pressures of a campaign on myself and the family have been substantial and I am withdrawing from the campaign. Sometimes family is more important than anything else."
His departure reduces the Democratic primary field to a three-way race between Jared Golden, Craig Olson and Lucas St. Clair.
