MAINE, USA — Voters from across the state headed to the polls Tuesday to make their voices heard on several key races. Polls closed at 8 p.m.
This year, Mainers weighed in on the presidential election with Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
Incumbent Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, faced challengers Democrat David Costello, Republican Demi Kouzounas, and independent Jason Cherry in a crucial Senate race.
In the competitive 2nd Congressional District, Democrat Rep. Jared Golden faced Republican challenger Austin Theriault.
Maine's 1st Congressional District was also on the ballot, with senior Rep. Chellie Pingree winning re-election against challengers Republican Ron Russell and independent Ethan Alcorn.
"I am deeply humbled and immensely grateful for the trust that Mainers have once again placed in me to continue serving the people of Maine in Congress. Representing the First District is a profound privilege, and I remain committed to working tirelessly for the priorities that matter most to our communities," Pingree said in part in a statement. "This victory reflects a shared commitment to protecting fundamental rights, addressing the urgent challenges of climate change, supporting working families, and safeguarding our democracy. These are not just legislative goals; they are the values that bind us and shape our future."
