The 207 interview | Maine's 1st District US Representative Chellie Pingree

With eight terms under her belt, she’s hoping voters will send her back to Washington.

PORTLAND, Maine — There are 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives, and on Nov. 5, an election will be held for all of them.

Most of those races—upwards of 400, according to many analysts—are slightly to not at all competitive and that includes Maine’s 1st congressional district. Democratic incumbent Chellie Pingree has cruised to victory in recent campaigns and is expected to do so again this year against Republican Ron Russell.

Here’s a quick look at her background.

Residence: North Haven.

Political experience: Elected to the Maine Senate in 1992. Served eight years before leaving because of term limits. Ran for the U.S. Senate in 2002 and was defeated by Republican incumbent Susan Collins. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008 and has since won re-election every two years.

Work experience: Organic farmer and small business owner. Co-owner of Nebo Lodge on North Haven. Former president of the national political activist group Common Cause.

Pingree joined us on 207 to talk about the high cost of housing, the federal budget deficit, and other issues. Watch our conversation to learn more.
