A human-size ice box is coming to Bellevue Square.

The box will give customers a chance to test out Eddie Bauer’s cold weather apparel in below freezing conditions at the company’s new flagship store in the mall. Customers can try on coats, hats, or gloves, and step into the box for a field test.

Eddie Bauer is still trying to figure out how cold they can get the box, but right now the box can run between minus 10 degrees and 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The box also has fans inside to simulate wind chill.

The concept of an ice box isn’t new for Eddie Bauer. In the 1950s, Eddie Bauer would test their outerwear in a cold storage lockers in downtown Seattle. Employees would take apparel with them to spend the night and see if it stood the field test.

The new store open September 18.
