Why are people wearing ear bandages at the Republican National Convention?

MILWAUKEE — Donald Trump supporters are showing their support for the former president in a new way at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

They are wearing bandages on one of their ears, a tribute to the bandage Trump wore when he entered the hall Monday to a roaring crowd.

Trump’s survival of an attempted assassination Saturday at a rally in Pennsylvania was on the minds of many inside the convention hall.

"We realized that this was a tragedy. It should have never happened. And we wanted him to know that we are going through this with him, that we honor him, that we respect him," said Arizona Delegate Ray Michaels."

Stacey Goodman, Arizona delegate, said, "I'm wearing a bandage on my right ear, standing in solidarity with President Trump."

Many of the speakers so far have referenced the assassination attempt on Trump’s life, and more of those references are expected on the final day of the convention, as well as from Trump himself as he speaks Thursday night.

Former president Donald Trump will formally accept the nomination to be the Republican presidential candidate in a prime-time speech on the final night of the convention. On the third night, his pick for Vice President, JD Vance, spoke. He used his Wednesday night address to the Republican National Convention to share the story of his hardscrabble upbringing and make the case that his party best understands the challenges facing struggling Americans. The 39-year-old Ohio senator is a relative political unknown. In his first prime-time speech since becoming the nominee for vice president, Vance spoke of growing up poor in Kentucky and Ohio, his mother addicted to drugs and his father absent, and how he later joined the military and went on to the highest levels of U.S. politics.
