MAINE, USA — Anyone interested in working for the Maine Warden Service -- now is your opportunity.

The Maine Warden Service announced on Wednesday, May 15 that it is looking to hire several new officers during recruitment, which ends in July.

A game warden's main responsibilities include enforcing fish and wildlife laws, conducting search and rescue, enforcing recreational vehicle laws, providing safety education for hunters, trappers, boaters, snowmobilers, and ATV operators, and fostering good relations between outdoors-goers and private landowners. 

To qualify to become a Maine Game Warden, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, no extensive motor vehicle or criminal record, be at least 21 years old, and have or be able to get a Maine Class C driver's license. They also must be willing to locate anywhere in the state. 

The selection for a Maine Game Warden is extensive and requires:

  • proof that the applicant has taken and passed the ALERT and pre-employment physical fitness tests
  • a written examination
  • an oral board examination (for those who score high enough on the written examination)
  • a swim test
  • a background check
  • a final interview

If a job offer is made, the candidate will have to undergo a physical examination, polygraph examination, and a psychological examination.

The Maine Warden Service was established in 1880 and is the second largest state law enforcement agency.
