POLAND, Maine — A young adult is in "critical condition" after deputies say they responded Saturday to a call about someone who was at risk of drowning.
Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office deputies and Poland Fire-Rescue responded to Range Pond State Park for a reported drowning around 2:10 p.m., according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
An initial investigation revealed a 21-year-old man was swimming with friends when he became tired and decided to return to shore, the sheriff's office said. The man went underwater on his way back.
The man's friends reportedly found him, brought him back to shore, and began life-saving measures.
He was brought to a local hospital "where he remains in critical condition," according to the sheriff's office.
The man was not identified "for privacy reasons."
