AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER Maine) --- After the disappointment of an empty 8th birthday party, a little girl celebrated surrounded by Maine’s finest on Sunday.
The Augusta Maine Police Department posted pictures to its Facebook page of their celebration with Larriah Binns after they learned nobody showed to her planned birthday party.
Larriah's mom, Angelique Binns, said she planned her daughter's party for Saturday and invited her daughter's friends.
The officers from the Augusta Police Department answered the call of duty and gave Larriah a birthday party to remember.
The 8-year-old's mom said, "She was definitely surprised. I told her that there were a few people coming over, but she did not know who, and when the cars started pulling up you could see the excitement in her eyes. She started jumping up and down."
Augusta Police Staff Sgt. Christian Behr said, "She's been pretty much surprised because I don't think she really knew that we were all coming in such numbers. She might have had an idea that someone from the police department was going to show up with maybe a card but then we had some good response from off-duty officers and their families as well as all of the other officers that are working today."
Larriah got a cake, a card signed by the entire police department and several gift cards -- including some to her favorite store, 'Five Below.'
