Woolwich woman dies in early morning West Forks crash

Deputies said the 69-year-old woman was traveling north on Route 201 when she crossed the center line, went off the road into a ditch, and struck a tree.

WEST FORKS, Maine — A Woolwich woman has died following a crash early Tuesday morning in West Forks.

Shortly after 2 a.m., deputies responded to a report about a crash on Route 201 in West Forks Plantation, the Somerset County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

An initial investigation revealed a 2016 Dodge Durango appeared to be traveling northbound on Route 201 when it crossed the center line, went off the roadway into a ditch off the southbound lane, and struck a tree.

Deputies said the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, 69-year-old Judy Rowe of Woolwich, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the release, Rowe was wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The West Forks Fire Department and Upper Kennebec Valley Ambulance Service assisted.
