OTISFIELD, Maine — A woman was seriously injured Thursday morning after being struck by a pickup truck while jogging on Route 121 in Otisfield.
Shortly before 6:30 a.m., a 911 call was made reporting a crash involving a pedestrian on Route 121 in Otisfield, the Oxford County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Deputies said initial findings revealed a 56-year-old Otisfield man was traveling south in a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck on Route 121 when he reportedly struck a 51-year-old woman, also of Otisfield, while she was running north on the road.
The woman was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with injuries considered to be serious and life-threatening. She was later transported to Maine Medical Center where she remains in "critical condition," according to the sheriff's office.
"The vehicle involved was towed from the scene and [the driver] is cooperating with investigators," the release stated. "Law enforcement investigators do not believe impairment, speed or driver inattention was involved in the crash at this time. Visibility was poor at the time of the crash due to lighting conditions and lights of on-coming vehicles."
LifeFlight of Maine was unable to respond to the scene due to weather conditions, deputies said.
Route 121 was shut down for several hours while investigators reconstructed and processed the scene, according to the release. Traffic was reportedly detoured for multiple hours, and the road has since reopened.
The Maine State Police, Otisfield Fire Department, and Pace Rescue assisted at the scene.
