Westbrook house fire under investigation

Firefighters spent about 45 minutes putting out the blaze on Webster Avenue.

WESTBROOK, Maine — Firefighters extinguished a fire that broke out at a home on Webster Avenue in Westbrook around 7:15 p.m. Sunday.

The fire was located on the second floor of 11 Webster Avenue, and firefighters spent about 45 minutes putting out the blaze, according to Westbrook Fire Chief Steve Sloan.

Sloan said there were no injuries or fatalities, and about 60 firefighters responded to the scene.

The Westbrook Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, with assistance from the state fire marshal's office.

While firefighters worked to put out the blaze, other personnel on scene were slowing down traffic at the Webster Avenue and Main Street intersection.

When responding to fires near a busy road like Main Street, Sloan said finding the closest water supply is one of his first concerns.

"That could really, depending on where it is, it will shut down the traffic to the area. It will hinder emergency vehicle apparatus placement and things like that," Sloan said.
