Crash on Main Street in Westbrook leads to drug trafficking arrest

After a two-vehicle crash on Main Street, police said they found 44 grams of cocaine in one of the vehicles.

WESTBROOK, Maine — A Westbrook man is facing drug trafficking charges after police say they found cocaine in his vehicle following a crash on Main Street Wednesday.

The crash happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. near Cumberland Street, Westbrook police said in a social media post.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash, with one of the vehicles ending up on its side. Police said there were no injuries.

Brandon Steele, 31, was the driver of the vehicle that ended up on its side, according to police. He was distracted and speeding, which allegedly caused the crash, and he was also on probation, police said. Officials searched his vehicle and found about 44 grams of cocaine, according to police.

Steele was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, according to police. A probation hold was also placed on him, police said.
