WESTBROOK (NEWS CENTER Maine) — A grandmother in Westbrook who made headlines last year when she became the oldest woman in the world to swim across the English Channel is back in her swimsuit and the limelight.
Pat Gallant-Charette, 67, is featured alongside Brooke Shields, model Ashley Graham, reality star Angela Simmons, and nurse practitioner Katie Duke in a new bathing suit ad from Swimsuits For All.
The retired nurse and Maine native is also the oldest woman to swim the Tsugaru Strait in Japan, the North Channel between Northern Ireland and Scotland, and the Molokai Channel in Hawaii.
In the ad, Gallant-Charette says, "As a marathon swimmer, I love wearing one pieces, not only because of how great they feel but also because they are the ones I get the most compliments on. At the age of 67, I feel stronger than I ever have in my life."
On June 17, 2017 Gallant-Charette swam the 21 frigid miles between England and France to set a world record without any professional coaching.
Gallant-Charette told NEWS CENTER Maine she did not even start swimming until later in life. When she was 48 years old, her son encouraged her to enter the Peaks to Portland swim in honor of her late brother.
She has been making history every since.
