ROCKLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine)-- The recently restored Friendship Sloop "Blackjack" will be launched at the Sail, Power and Steam museum in Rockland Saturday morning.
Blackjack is a 118-year-old Sloop that was originally built by Wilbur Morse in Friendship, Maine. Restoration to Blackjack began in December of 2014, where shipbuilder Jim Loney said he and his team were up to the challenge of restoring Blackjack. A donation of white oak was delivered for the rebuild of Blackjack.
The Sloop will be launched 1900s style and will be hauled by a team of oxen from the museum to the log launching ramp at Snow Marine Park in Rockland.
The event will also include entertainment from 12 Belfast Fiddlers, bagpipes and a toast for the ceremony. All are welcome to celebrate the restoration of this boat and Maine's boating and fishing heritage.
