UPDATE 1:15 P.M.: The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office has identified the 17-year-old girl as Cassidy Charette of Oakland. She was on the ride with several other students Messalonskee High School.
16-year-old Connor Garland of Belgrade is the other teen seriously injured. He is being treated at Boston Children's Hospital.
The driver of the Jeep has been identified as 54-year-old David Brown of South Paris. He is currently being treated at CMMC.
State Police have impounded the vehicle and will conduct a safety inspection on it.
Many of the injured have been treated and released, but police say some still remain hospitalized.
UPDATE 8:27 a.m.: A 17-year-old girl is dead after a hayride accident that happened last night, according to Maine State Public Safety spokesperson Steve McCausland. She died overnight from her injuries.
22 other people were injured, two of them in critical condition. A hay wagon being pulled by a Jeep lost control, careened down a hill, struck a tree, and overturned in Mechanic Falls Saturday night. The 2 most seriously injured in the accident are a teenage boy and the driver of the Jeep.
Central Maine Medical Center tells NEWS CENTER that they have treated 11 patients from the accident, including the 17-year-old woman that died. Officials add two people were admitted and are in stable condition while 7 were treated in the emergency room and released.
Investigators say a mechanical problem with the Jeep may have been what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. State Police are continuing this investigation. An inspection of the Jeep is part of that process.
The Fire Marshals Office license mechanical amusement rides in Maine, however the hayride did not require such licensing, according to McCausland.
UPDATE 6:00 a.m.: MECHANIC FALLS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- According to a family friend, a woman who was taken by Life Flight to Central Maine Medical Center has passed away.
A hayride flipped in Mechanic Falls Saturday night, leaving 23 people, including the driver of the hayride, injured.
The incident happened during a Gauntlet Haunted Hayride at Harvest Hill Farms on Rt. 26.
Twelve to thirteen people were transported to the hospital. A few more drove themselves to the hospital, and CMMC has 17 patients total.
Saturday night, officials were evaluating a number of patients and said some may have to go into surgery.
St. Mary's hospital in Lewiston also has 12 patients.
Another person was also transported by Life Flight.
Officials say they believe there were about 30 people on the ride during the crash.
