DEDHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Three people died Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Route 1A, said State Police.
Police said the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. near the Lucerne Inn. Troopers said Richard Olson, 85 from Ellsworth, was driving a Tahoe that crossed the center line and hit a GMC truck head-on. Phillip Carter, 32, and Roxanne Papken, 25, both from Bangor, were both in the GMC truck and Carter was driving. Troopers said Olson was going toward Ellsworth and there is no explanation as to why he veered into the other lane. State Police said all three died on scene.
Route 1A reopned around 11 p.m. Tuesday after being closed for more than five hours.
