Two children, driver injured in single-vehicle crash in Corinna

Maine State Police responded to the single-vehicle crash on Route 7 Saturday morning.

CORINNA, Maine — Two children and a 48-year-old man from Newport were brought to the hospital after they were injured in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday in Corinna.

Just before 10:45 a.m., Maine State Police troopers were called to a single-vehicle crash on Route 7 near the Newport town line, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

A silver 2017 Ford Taurus was reportedly headed northbound on Route 7 when it left the roadway and struck a tree. There were three occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash: the driver, 48-year-old James Smith of Newport, and children ages 7 and 10, Moss said.

Smith and the 7-year-old were brought to Sebasticook Valley Hospital with minor injuries, and the 10-year-old was brought to Eastern Maine Medical Center in "critical but stable condition."

Moss said Smith has a suspended driver's license in Maine and in Florida.

State police were reportedly assisted by the Newport Police Department, Corinna Fire Department and ambulance crews from Dexter, Newport and the Northern Light Life flight ground crew.

Route 7 was shut down for roughly two hours while police were at the scene.
