MAINE, USA — Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday endorsed Austin Theriault, who's running for Congress in Maine's 2nd District.
Theriault, 30, of Fort Kent, is a state representative and former NASCAR driver. He's running against fellow state representative Mike Soboleski for the Republican nomination in the June 11 primary. Democrat Jared Golden has held the 2nd District seat for three terms and is running for reelection.
"Austin Theriault will work hard to Secure the Border, Protect our always under siege Second Amendment, Stop Crime, Cut Taxes, and Support our Brave Law Enforcement, Military, and Veterans," Trump said in a post on Truth Social, in which he also criticized Golden.
Theriault said in a statement he's "looking forward to working with President Trump to take Maine's 2nd Congressional District back for the people."
"This is about fighting for Mainers who don't have a voice, and I'm excited to be working with another proven champion to Save America!" the statement continued.
Trump has endorsed about 10 candidates for Congress with upcoming primaries and about an equal number of U.S. Senate candidates.
