ORRINGTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Out with the old and in with the new.
Nearly 100 homes in the community of Orrington is holding yard sales this weekend, as a part of the Endless Yard Sale with endless possibilities.
“We live in Maine. We yard sale,” said one yard sale shopper.
The saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. For these shoppers, the treasure is in the bargains.
“I got a whole bag for $5, and at a store you can buy a pair of socks for 5 bucks,” said an Eddington resident visiting Orrington for the sales.
Orrington’s Endless Yard Sale wraps up the town’s Old Home Week. It is a way to refresh neighborhoods and bring the community together.
“It's a good opportunity to get rid of things we aren't using anymore. And it's fun, to be honest with you, the number of people you get to see and whatnot,” said Mary Daley, a resident of Orrington.
“I have a six-year-old so I have tons of baby clothes. He has gobs and gobs of stuff so it's nice to have other people be able to come and get it,” said Michelle Randall, an Orrington resident.
Sometimes it is surprising to see what stays and what goes.
“Some things that you think is a treasure and you barely want to let go of someone may not even want to touch. Something you think oh it's pretty close to the trash can, they want it,” said Terri England, an Orrington resident.
“Next year I said I want to take the year off because I want to go around and do it,” said Daley.
Some residents say they make a few hundred dollars each year.
