UPDATE: Fire officials have arrived on the scene of a home fire.
LEEDS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Blue Rock Road is still closed and fire officials cannot get to a nearby fire due to train.
LEEDS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Pan Am Train heading to a nearby mill derailed due to icy conditions Tuesday morning. It is blocking Blue Rock Road.
A railway official says they salt the rails, just like the DOT would salt roads, but with the heavy rain on Sunday and the single digit temperatures, it doesn't work like it should. Crews are waiting on the tow device to get it back rolling again.. it should be moved by 7:00 a.m.
The train was carrying steel to a mill in Rumford. The superintendent of the eastern rail division said salt couldn't de-ice the tracks.
A commuter who takes Blue Rock Road every day said he sees ice pack on the tracks often, he wasn't surprised it stopped the train.
