NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — A tractor-trailer truck hauling oranges rolled over during a crash on the Maine Turnpike early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., Maine State Police troopers responded to a crash at mile 68 on the Maine Turnpike in New Gloucester where a tractor-trailer truck had reportedly left the roadway and rolled over, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
An initial investigation revealed the driver of the truck owned by DW Carrier Inc. of Fresno, California lost control of the vehicle and struck the median guardrail, resulting in the trailer to roll onto its side, Moss said.
The truck was fully loaded with oranges at the time of the crash, according to Moss.
The driver was not injured during the crash, Moss said. The truck was significantly damaged.
Moss said the truck is scheduled to be removed from the side of the roadway at 9 a.m. on Thursday due to freezing rain and the need to unload and move the tractor-trailer truck. A full lane closure is planned to do so.
The Maine Turnpike Authority and Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit reportedly assisted at the scene.
