GORHAM, Maine — A home in Gorham was determined to be a total loss after a fire broke out Monday night.
Gorham Fire Chief Ken Fickett told NEWS CENTER Maine a fire began just after 6:30 p.m. at a home located at 154 Mosher Rd., also known as Route 237.
At least eight stations responded to the blaze that rendered the home and a car in its garage total losses, Fickett said.
Fickett said the fire was believed to be caused by a gas grill in the home's garage. All residents were home at the time of the fire and were able to vacate safely, Fickett said.
A neighbor's trailer was also determined to be a total loss, and siding on that neighbor's home reportedly melted in the fire, but the residence remains inhabitable.
One firefighter was sent to the hospital for exhaustion.
A portion of Route 237 was shut down at Queen Street and Acorn Street due to the fire. Drivers were asked to seek an alternate route.
NEWS CENTER Maine has a crew at the scene and will update this story as we learn more.
