SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A woman from South Portland was seriously injured when she collided with a truck while operating a scooter and was then run over by the truck.
South Portland police said the incident happened around 9 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Main Street and Cornell Street.
The 24-year-old woman was operating a scooter along the sidewalk when she collided with a pickup truck driven by a 24-year-old man from Biddeford, who was making a right turn from Cornell Street onto Main Street, police said in a news release.
After the collision, the truck then ran over the scooter and the woman, police said. The woman was seriously injured and was brought to a local hospital with injuries that police said did not appear to be life-threatening.
South Portland police said the driver of the pickup truck was cited for failure to stop at a right-on-red signal, according to the release.
