SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Two people are recovering from injuries sustained in separate crashes in South Portland Tuesday morning.

South Portland police responded to a crash on Evans Street near Bonnybriar Road just before 7:15 a.m. involving a car and bicyclist, according to a news release from the South Portland Police Department.

A 14-year-old was riding his bicycle in traffic when he was struck by a car, police said. He was brought to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver reportedly stopped upon striking the teenager and was ultimately cited for failure to yield.

Police said they responded to a second crash around 11 a.m., involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on Maine Mall Road near Philbrook Avenue.

A 30-year-old woman was reportedly struck by a car while she was crossing in the crosswalk and suffered minor injuries. She was brought to a local hospital by South Portland Fire Rescue, police said. The driver called 911 immediately following the crash and was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, according to police.

Police ask the public to stay cautious and look out for pedestrians and bicyclists while operating on the roads.
