SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A new Barnes & Noble bookstore is set to open in South Portland later this month.
The store's opening is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 22, according to a Barnes & Noble social media post.
It will be approximately 25,000 square feet and will feature its new, refocused design that's described by the New York Times as back-to-basics and inspired by indie bookstores.
The new store will house a Barnes & Noble Café, and carry books, toys, games, puzzles, and gifts, with a "reimagined music/vinyl section," a spokesperson told NEWS CENTER Maine.
The South Portland location comes in addition to stores in Augusta, and as of July last year, Brunswick.
The South Portland store will occupy the former Bed Bath & Beyond space on Running Hill Road near the Maine Mall.
Bed Bath & Beyond announced in February it would be shuttering 150 more stores as the beleaguered home goods chain cuts costs to stay afloat.
