SIDNEY, Maine — A man from Augusta is in custody after a more than eight-hour standoff at a residence in Sidney on Wednesday.
At approximately 8:15 a.m., Maine State Police were notified that 33-year-old Marlon Cloutier of Augusta was at a relative's home located on Sunset Ridge, Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a release.
Cloutier was wanted on charges of felony burglary, theft of firearms, violation of conditional release, violation of a protective order and possession of a firearm.
Residents of the Sunset Ridge home reportedly left just after Cloutier arrived.
Troopers responded to the home, and the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the residence shortly after noon, Moss said.
Some nearby homes were evacuated and the road was shut down.
A NEWS CENTER Maine crew at the scene heard police announce on a megaphone that they have a search warrant. The crew also saw police attach a battering ram to the front of a tactical vehicle.
After eight hours of negotiations, law enforcement took Cloutier into custody, Moss said. He was brought to the Kennebec County Jail and is expected to be booked on the outstanding warrants and charges of creating a police stand off, violation of bail, possession of Scheduled W drugs, and refusing to submit to arrest of detention.
