SANFORD, Maine — A student at Sanford High School has died in a car crash, according to a letter written by the superintendent to parents and guardians.
Lydia Ashline, a senior at the school, died in a crash Wednesday in Rochester, New Hampshire.
Rochester is about 15 miles from Sanford, just over the New Hampshire border.
"We are shocked and saddened by this tragic event," Superintendent of Schools Matt Nelson said Thursday in the letter.
The school made counseling support available to the school community, with the option for special or additional counseling support.
"Thanks for your support as we move forward," Nelson wrote. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this time of loss and grief."
