Sanford slammed with snow, second major hit in a week

Residents were out snow blowing and shoveling up to 24 inches.

SANFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- The two-day storm stacked up the snow for the city of Sanford. The area is still clearing-up from 18.5 inches of snow recorded by the National Weather Service from the March 8th nor'easter.

March nor'easter delivers double-digit snowfall

Residents were out snow blowing and shoveling before the snow stopped. Reports show Sanford received about two feet of snow in 24 hours.

"That's probably about two feet to many and I'm ready for summer," said Jim Peterson, who lives on North Avenue. "I've got to go out back because I have a dog. I've got to plow out some paths for him." Peterson is in charge of his neighbor's property across the street. He joked that he was enjoying the weather.

Dennis Jalbert, lives down the street from Peterson. He is excited about fresh snow, but did not care for shoveling off his roof.

"I got a snowmobile I like riding and I got a jacked up truck that I like playing around in," said Jalbert.

R. Pepin & Sons is a 4th generation concrete company in Sanford. The winter weather hampered the business' bottom line. Workers can't pour foundations in the storm and their 14 mixers are parked. Isaac Pepin told NEWS CENTER Maine they still have to pay some of their drivers.

"Right now we have guys at home just waiting, but as soon as the roads become [legal]... everyone is backed-up," said Pepin. "If you try to get concrete poured right now, if you call someone for a foundation, they are going to tell you 'it's going to be mid-summer.'"

More snow is forecasted for Maine next week and the people are hoping the Sanford area isn't a direct hit. The official Spring season starts March 20th.
