Sanford man crashes in St. Francis

The accident happened on Route 161.
The car rolled after skidding across the roadway.

ST. FRANCIS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- State Police arrested a man for an alleged OUI after he crashed on Route 161.

State Police said Bruce Bernier, 47, was driving southbound on Route 161 in his 2002 Dodge pickup. He lost control, skidded off the opposite side of the road, hit a mailbox, and then the car rolled. Police said Sanford resident Bernier suffered minor cuts from glass.

A trooper was called to the scene of the accident, said Bernier had allegedly already left the scene. State Police found him shortly after at a Fort Kent home.

After investigation, police arrested Bernier and charged him with operating under the influence, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and violations of bail conditions.
