YORK, Maine — The York School Department superintendent wrote a letter Saturday to district parents and staff saying allegations about a potential threat to the high school were debunked.

"I am writing in response to the recent allegations regarding a potential threat to York High School. I assure you that there is no credible threat to the safety of students, faculty, or staff," Superintendent Timothy Doak said in the letter, which York police shared on their social media page.

Doak said the allegations were investigated by school administrators and law enforcement, and no evidence was found during that investigation to substantiate the claims.

"The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities," Doak wrote. "We take all threats seriously and will continue to work closely with local law enforcement to maintain a safe learning environment."

Despite only being several weeks into the new school year, several school districts across Maine have already investigated numerous threats.

MSAD 46 closed Aug. 28, delaying the first day of school for many students, after administrators received what law enforcement investigated as a "specified threat." Classes resumed for some students in district the following day and later in the week for others.

Just over a week later, on Sept. 9, school officials with MSAD 44 in Oxford County canceled classes while a threat to schools there was being investigated.

In a message posted to the school district's website, Superintendent Mark Kenney said the district received a "credible threat" directed at the Telstar complex. The cancelation counted as the school district's first snow day of the school year, according to Kenney.
