'Do Not Drink' order issued for some Richmond residents

A water main break has left some Richmond residents without drinking water.

RICHMOND, Maine — A water main break in Richmond has left some residents without drinking water.

According to a Facebook post from the Richmond Fire Department, crews were working to repair a water main break on Saturday.

The Maine Division of Environmental and Community Health shows a "Do Not Drink" order was posted Saturday for a water main break affecting residents north of Baker Brook. A boil water order was issued Friday citing a water main break affecting residents of outer Main Street (Route 197), according to the website.

Richmond Fire Chief Stephen Caswell told NEWS CENTER Maine the water main break happened on Friday during seasonal hydrant flushing.

The fire department is working with the Richmond Utilities District as repairs are being made, Caswell said. Sagadahoc County Emergency Management has reportedly been notified.

Chuck Applebee of the Richmond Utilities District told NEWS CENTER Maine roughly 60 residents have been issued the "Do Not Drink" order as a precaution. At this time, it is unknown if the water may be contaminated.

Water has reportedly been restored for all residents.

The Richmond Fire Department is advising residents who need drinking water to call the Sagadahoc County Communications Center at 207-443-9711.
