Looking to get warm? Warming centers open across Maine amid widespread power outages

Many Mainers are still without power Sunday night after a storm brought snow and freezing rain to much of the state.

MAINE, USA — Many Mainers remain without power Sunday after snow and freezing rain fell Saturday across much of the state. 

To help people stay safe and keep warm, several warming centers have opened in Cumberland, Hancock, Knox, and York counties. Some are providing food and drinks, charging stations, and places to rest.

Here is a list of warming centers that have been announced. Counties are listed in alphabetical order.

Cumberland County

Portland

Location: East End Community School at 195 North St.

Information: Open as a warming and charging center from 5 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday.

South Portland

Location: South Portland Community Center, 21 Nelson Rd. 

Information: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 207-767-7650 for more information. 

Brunswick

Location: Brunswick Recreation Center

Information: Open as a warming and charging center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Chebeague Island

Location: Island Hall

Information: Open as a warming center due to power outages. 

North Yarmouth

Location: North Yarmouth Fire Rescue Station, 10 Village Square Rd. 

Information: Open as a warming and charging center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hancock County

Ellsworth

Location: Healthy Acadia, 24 Church St. 

Information: Open as a warming center seven days a week, from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m. for housing-insecure individuals in Hancock and Washington counties. Food and drinks are available. Knox County

Union

Location: Union Town Office, 567 Common Rd.

Information: Open as a warming center until 5 p.m. Visitors are asked to ring the doorbell at the fire department and ambulance entrance. 

York County

North Berwick

Location: Berwick Town Hall, 11 Sullivan St. 

Information: Open as a warming and charging center until 7 p.m.

Saco

Location: Saco Community Center, 75 Franklin St. 

Information: Open as a warming center from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Entrance is located through the main entryway adjacent to the large parking lot. Visitors are asked to follow signage to warming center rooms. 

Biddeford

Location: Biddeford Middle School, 25 Tiger Dr. 

Information: Open as a warming and charging center until 5 p.m.
