UNITY, Maine — Emergency officials responded Thursday morning to a developing incident in Unity in which a person reportedly suffered a gunshot injury.
Waldo County dispatchers confirmed Thursday morning that LifeFlight had been called to help transport a person with a gunshot injury.
The Unity Volunteer Fire Department was called to assist in getting the individual out of the woods off Route 202, also called Albion Road.
Interim Fire Chief David Smith told NEWS CENTER Maine the person was about a mile into the woods on rough trails that required the use of an ATV to get them out. The person was then transported from the ATV directly onto the helicopter for transport to a hospital for care.
Maine State Police is assisting the Waldo County Sheriff's Office with the incident, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said.
NEWS CENTER Maine crews at the scene said officials were beginning to clear the area around noon.
