Head-on collision in Levant sends four people to the hospital

LEVANT, Maine — Four people, including a toddler, were injured in a serious crash Friday afternoon in the town of Levant. 

Emergency officials responded to the two-vehicle crash on Horseback Road around 2:30 p.m., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lt. Aaron Turcotte said Friday evening in a news release.

The driver of a Jeep Renegade, identified as 23-year-old Kallie Urquhart, was traveling south on the road and collided head-on with a Toyota Rav4 that was traveling north, the release stated. 

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 54-year-old Edward Spencer, was seriously injured in the crash and was brought to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he was listed in critical condition, Turcotte said. 

Two passengers in Spencer's vehicle were also transported to the hospital. A 2-year-old passenger was flown by LifeFlight helicopter, and the other passenger was brought to the hospital by ambulance, according to the release. 

Urquhart was also injured in the crash and was being treated at a local hospital.

Numerous agencies assisted Levant Fire & Rescue and Hermon Fire Department in the response, including Hampden Public Safety, Bangor Fire Department, Corinth Fire Department, the Air National Guard, and Maine State Police. 

Maine State Police is investigating the crash.
