Standish man seriously injured in single-vehicle crash in Sebago

A 50-year-old man from Standish was brought to the hospital Sunday morning with serious injuries, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

SEBAGO, Maine — A man from Standish was brought to a local hospital to be treated for serious injuries Sunday morning after the vehicle he was in departed the roadway and struck several trees along the shore of Perley Pond.

Sebago Fire and EMS, along with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, responded to a single-vehicle crash on Folly Road reported by a person driving through the area, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

An initial investigation revealed a 2021 Subaru driven by 50-year-old Wayne Whitney of Standish left the roadway and struck several trees along the shore of Perley Pond just after 10 a.m. Upon EMS arrival, Whitney was "unresponsive with obvious injury and was trapped in the vehicle."

Whitney was extricated and brought to Maine Medical Center with "broken bones and other serious injuries," the sheriff's office said. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
