South Portland business park evacuated by police

South Portland Pediatrics was included in the evacuation notice, a spokesperson with Maine Medical Center told NEWS CENTER Maine.

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A business park in South Portland near the Maine Mall was evacuated by police Friday afternoon over an apparent threat. 

Businesses at 75 John Roberts Road were evacuated, with police arriving at the scene around 2 p.m. 

An owner from one business there said police entered, told them there was a bomb threat related to a vehicle on the campus, and had them evacuate. 

South Portland Pediatrics was included in the evacuation notice, a spokesperson with Maine Medical Center told NEWS CENTER Maine. 

South Portland police confirmed with NEWS CENTER Maine that they were investigating a call about a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. 

NEWS CENTER Maine crews on the scene witnessed what appeared to be a robot surrounding the car in question. Officials were able to open up the car, but it is unconfirmed if anything was found inside. 

The evacuation notice was lifted shortly before 4 p.m., according to an update shared by South Portland police on their Facebook page. Around the same time, police cleared the scene and the suspicious car was towed.
