GORHAM, Maine — An investigation is underway after utility workers in Gorham alerted law enforcement officials Tuesday that they may have uncovered skeletal remains.
Gorham police responded to an area along Longfellow Road after receiving a report from utility workers who believed they discovered skeletal remains, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release.
The department said at the scene the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South was notified for assistance in the investigation.
The remains were taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, according to the release.
The incident remains under investigation.
