Sheriff's office responds to 'active situation' on Route 222 in Glenburn

GLENBURN, Maine — The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office responded Monday afternoon to an "active situation" in Glenburn, though details about the active incident were limited. 

At approximately 4:30 p.m., the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post the incident was impacting travel on Route 222 in Glenburn, otherwise referred to as the outer Union Street area. Traffic was being redirected onto Merryman Road and Grogan Road.

"An appropriate level of resources have been utilized to minimize the risk to the public," the post stated.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area, if possible.

Maine State Police is assisting with the incident, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss told NEWS CENTER Maine.

A NEWS CENTER Maine crew at the scene reported seeing approximately 10 police vehicles responding to the incident at 5:30 p.m. An official at the scene said about 25 additional police vehicles will be responding.
