Maine State Police investigating shooting incident in Bath

The Bath Police Department said a shelter-in-place order was lifted Sunday morning after it was issued due to an "on going situation."

BATH, Maine — Maine State Police are investigating a shooting incident in Bath that happened Sunday morning.

The incident happened before 7 a.m. in a residential neighborhood in Bath, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Bath Police Department are investigating.

There is no danger to the public, Moss said in the release.

A shelter-in-place order that was issued earlier Sunday morning due to an "on going situation" on Crawford Drive has been lifted, according to the Bath Police Department.

In a Facebook post, the Sagadahoc County Emergency Management Agency said residents who live north of North Street should remove keys from vehicles, lock all doors, and remain inside their homes away from windows.

NEWS CENTER Maine sent a crew to the scene who reported Crawford Drive was closed from the intersection with Newton Road and Matthews Avenue as of 10:50 a.m.

Oak Grove Avenue and Crawford Road had been blocked off with detours in place, according to Bath Police.

Detectives and evidence response technicians are processing the scene interviewing witnesses as of 11:15 a.m., according to Moss.

NEWS CENTER Maine spoke to one neighbor in the area who said he saw the whole scene unfold.

"All the kids in my neighborhood, I fear for them. I don't want to see anything bad happen to them and it has me scared something might happen to them," Dylan Harris said.

Bath police at the scene would not share any details about what happened. Chief Andrew Booth said they are there to support Maine State Police, the primary investigators. Booth did say they are aware the local community is on high alert.

"Bath is a very close-knit community. Things like this don't happen a lot. When it does, it's shocking. Today was obviously a surprise and a shock to a lot of people. A lot of people are having a hard time kind of grasping what happened. We've been in touch with all the neighbors here and the community in general to reassure them that everything is safe at this point," Chief Booth said.
