SABATTUS, Maine — A teenager died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Sabattus.
Sabattus police and fire personnel responded to the intersection of Litchfield Road and Hillside Drive around 2:30 p.m. for a reported crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist, according to a news release from the Sabattus Police Department.
The bicyclist reportedly had left Hillside Drive and was heading west on Litchfield Road when the incident happened. The teen was brought to Central Maine Medical Center, where he later died, police said.
Sabattus Chief of Police Eric Baker identified the teen as 15-year-old Tristan Boyd of Sabattus.
The vehicle involved was said to be a 2020 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 35-year-old man from Portland. Police said alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash, and the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
"Tristan was a beautiful soul who woke up every day determined to be better than the day before," Whitney Bouchard, Tristan's mom, told NEWS CENTER Maine. "He was thoughtful, fun, curious, adventurous, and dedicated to his family. He was a free spirit that nobody could hold back. He was my everything, and my whole purpose in this world. Not a day will go by that I won't carry him with me. Forever."
The Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office is reportedly assisting with the investigation.
Litchfield Road was closed from Route 126 to the area of Hillside Drive due to the crash.
