SANFORD, Maine — A patient at a Sanford hospital experiencing a mental health crisis called police Friday afternoon falsely claiming there was an active shooter there, according to police.
Sanford police said they received a call at about 2:12 p.m. saying there was an active shooter at Southern Maine Health Care.
"Sanford Police Officers as well as neighboring agencies in the area immediately responded to the scene and within four minutes of receiving the call determined that the call originated from the hospital from a patient that was having a mental health crisis and the call made was false," police said in a statement.
Sanford police Major Matthew Gagné told NEWS CENTER Maine police are "looking at" possible charges against the patient.
