Young swimmer taken to hospital after rescue on Saco River in Limington

Fire officials said the young male was semi-conscious when the ambulance left the scene, and CPR was performed after he was pulled from the water.

LIMINGTON, Maine — A young swimmer was rushed to the hospital Thursday afternoon after requiring rescue from an incident while swimming in the Limington Rapids of the Saco River.

Limington's fire chief told NEWS CENTER Maine that swimmers in the area saw a young male go under the water but did not resurface on his own. The age of the individual was not immediately known, the fire chief said. 

When the young swimmer was pulled out of the water, he was reportedly unresponsive. Other swimmers in the area performed CPR while waiting on emergency responders to arrive. 

"Upon our arrival, the subject had a pulse and was semi-conscious," the fire chief said. 

He was brought by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to officials. 

Limington fire was assisted at the scene by Standish Fire/EMS.
