Head-on crash on I-95 in Portsmouth kills Sabattus man

The crash closed all northbound lanes for two hours Wednesday night.

Crash on I-95 in Portsmouth kills man from Sabattus and injures woman from Berwick.

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — A man from Sabattus is dead and a woman from Berwick was seriously injured following a crash on I-95 in Portsmouth Wednesday night. 

New Hampshire State Police troopers responded to the head-on crash near the Route 16 North split at around 6:30 p.m., according to a press release sent Thursday. A Ford Escape crossed the median from the southbound side of I-95 and hit a Toyota Camry heading north head-on, the press release said. 

The driver of the Ford Escape, Arlen Brown, 68, of Sabattus, was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota Camry, Jessica Emerson, 25, of Berwick, was also taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. There were no passengers in either vehicle involved.

All lanes of I-95 north in Portsmouth were closed for about two hours as police investigated the scene and removed debris from the road. 

"All aspects of the crash remain under investigation," the press release stated.
