Six kids, one adult brought to hospital after rollover crash in Durham

Durham Fire and Rescue said the number of patients, six children and one adult, led them to declare it as a "mass casualty incident."

DURHAM, Maine — A mass casualty incident was declared Monday in Durham after several children and one adult were involved in a serious rollover crash.

On Monday afternoon, crews responded to a report of a vehicle rollover with several occupants in the area of the 1600 block on Route 136, also known as Royalsborough Road, Durham Fire and Rescue said on social media.

"Due to the number of patients, the incident commander declared a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI)," the Facebook post stated.

Additional ambulances were requested from Freeport Fire Rescue and Lisbon Emergency, according to the post.

The evaluation and transportation of seven people, six of whom were young children, was coordinated between Durham Fire and Rescue, the additional responding ambulances, and Maine Medical Center. The extent of their injuries was unclear.

No additional information was released.
