MILLINOCKET, Maine — Police say a replica firearm was discovered abandoned in the area of Stearns High School on Thursday.
East Millinocket police were notified that a handgun had been found abandoned in the grassy recreation area of the Stearns High School and Middle School complex, according to the department on social media.
The reported handgun was determined to be a "realistic replica" and not a real firearm, according to police.
"Officers have been in contact with school officials regarding the incident," police said.
An investigation is ongoing and police say they are not releasing more information at this time.
