According to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, listeriosis is an infection caused by eating food contaminated with the listeria bacteria such as raw foods like uncooked meats and vegetables, or processed foods like soft cheeses or unpasteurized milk.
Fever, fatigue, body aches, diarrhea, and vomiting are common symptoms associated with listeriosis, and the illness typically affects pregnant women, newborns, and adults with compromised immune systems.
