RANGELEY, Maine — A kayaker was flown to a hospital with a broken leg after being rescued from the Kennebago River late last week.

It happened Thursday in the area of Boy Scout Road, Rangeley Fire Rescue said in a social media post. NorthStar Ambulance and the Maine Warden Service also responded.

Due to the injured kayaker's location, rescue crews had to bushwhack their way in to locate and stabilize the patient, the post stated. The kayaker was helped to the riverbank by a bystander, whom officials identified as the owner of River's Edge Sports in Oquossoc, which is an unincorporated village in Rangeley.

LifeFlight of Maine responded to the scene, landing in between the Portage Tap House and Oquossoc Grocery, according to the post.

Officials said the rescue showed great teamwork by all involved.
