WATERFORD, Maine — The Oxford County Sheriff's Office is investigating a high-speed chase Monday involving a motorcycle in Waterford that resulted in a man's death.
Oxford County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Timothy Ontengco started pursing a Honda Goldwing motorcycle southbound on Waterford Road at about 10 a.m., officials said in a press release sent Friday.
The motorcycle crossed the center line near Haskell Hill Road and crashed head-on into a tractor trailer.
Ontengco and witnesses performed CPR on the motorcycle rider identified as 42-year-old Thomas Welch of Porter, but their efforts were unsuccessful, and Thomas died at the scene, the press release said.
Officials said the motorcycle Porter was on is registered out of New Hampshire.
The tractor-trailer involved was registered to Dube Environmental Inc. out of Sidney. The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash. The truck was hauling sewage from the Fryeburg Fair, according to the press release.
The Oxford County Sheriff's Office said it notified the Maine Attorney General's Office, the Oxford County District Attorney's Office, and the Maine State Police about the crash, which it said is standard policy. Several agencies are involved in the ongoing investigation into the crash.
